The Basement Call
Electrical engineer Jeff Suglio receives an urgent call from his brother, a Cleveland dentist struggling to install a new computerized billing system. Jeff drives to the clinic, rewrites the database queries, and stabilizes the system. Seeing that clinical teams need technology support that understands operatories, he launches Dental Medical Automation (DMA) directly out of his Ohio basement.
The Cleveland Backup Transport
Practice databases expand, and protecting records becomes critical. Years before fast internet or cloud databases exist, Jeff Suglio establishes standard integrity checks, driving weekly to partner offices across Cleveland to collect and transport physical floppy disk and tape backups to his secure home vault, guaranteeing that no dentist ever loses patient charts.
The Digital Sensor Revolution
Dental offices transition from chemical darkrooms to instant digital radiograph sensors. DMA leads the Ohio industry, planning complex operatory networks to bridge massive image files to chairside displays in under 2 seconds, resolving the Dexis/Eaglesoft driver conflicts that generic IT companies drop.
A Multi-Generational Transition
Jeff’s son, Sam Suglio, joins DMA. Bringing advanced technical degrees and a strict focus on cybersecurity, Sam modernizes the company’s offerings, implementing clinical disk encryption, access audit logs, isolated networks, and formal Business Associate Agreements (BAAs).
Sam Suglio Becomes President
Sam takes over as President, carrying forward his father’s founding promise: specialized dental IT support built entirely on clinical production, uptime, and relationship-driven trust—with zero corporate fluff.
